(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) The Majlis A'Shura's 17th meeting of the third annual sitting of the seventh term, 2011-15, was held on Wednesday. It was headed by Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, its chairman.


The meeting was attended by H E Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications. Members presented their queries and deliberations to the minister. They mostly focused on the fair distribution of transport and communications projects in all governorates.


The members enquired about delays in some vital projects, appealed for fast completion of work on the Batinah coastal road, and asked about the ministry's efforts to boost telecommunications and Internet services in certain areas.


The meeting also discussed the railway project. One member conveyed a demand by citizens in Dhofar to open a new border with Saudi Arabia. Members also enquired about the implementation of the decisions of Saih al Shamikhat Symposium to support small and medium-sized enterprises. The 18th meeting on  Thursday will discuss reports from Majlis A'Shura standing committees.
