(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) This year's Oil & Gas West Asia (OGWA) exhibition and Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) conference, held in Muscat, Oman, further raised Shell's profile as a leader of EOR technology and as a company committed to the communities in which it operates.

Held at Oman's International Exhibition Center from March 3 1 to April 2, the OGWA exhibition was inaugurated by H E Eng Ali bin Masoud bin Ali al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry. The EOR conference, which took place alongside the exhibition, was opened with welcome remarks by HE Salim Nasser al Aufi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil and Gas, Oman. Both events were attended by oil and gas leaders from across the region.

Acknowledging Shell's Platinum sponsorship of the conference and participation in the exhibition, Shell's chairman in Oman Chris Breeze noted ''We have been a long-standing supporter of the SPE EOR Conference in Muscat, participating in the conference's executive and programme committees and providing keynote speakers, panelists and technical paper presentations.

In OGWA we are delighted to showcase our EOR Centre of Excellence in Oman and the positive results of our close collaboration with PDO in EOR research and development as well as in established EOR technologies. We are also pleased to exhibit some of our social investment portfolio in Oman. These programmes touch on many of Oman's development focus areas including employment, youth development, entrepreneurship and road safety.''

The Shell stand showcased a variety of EOR techniques, including chemical, thermal and miscible gas injection methods, all of which are already in use in Oman. Shell remains deeply committed to EOR and to pushing the boundaries of technology innovation.

Advances will continue to stem from the kind of focused, high-quality research undertaken at Shell's technology centers worldwide and, at the same time, real progress will require a broad array of oilfield technology skills, the ability to integrate and a willingness to work in partnership with others. Shell Development Oman's (SDO) voluntary contribution to Oman was also displayed at the event. Social investment is embedded in the way SDO carries out its business to provide long-term sustainable programmes.
