(MENAFN - Arab News) The 2nd riyadh social forum kicked off tuesday night at the al-faisaliah hotel under the auspices of the saudi ministry of social affairs

Riyadh deputy gov. prince turki bin abdullah bin abdul aziz attended the two-day occasion

More than 15 groups of youth and some 500 guests awaited the arrival of prince turki who toured the booths at the forum as soon as he arrived

Several youth participated in the event as volunteers

'we wanted to show guests what we are capable of achieving as volunteers provided we receive support" said badr fahad al-jeraisy a 28-year-old-teacher at an intermediate school in riyadh

Al-jeraisy media head of a social committee in ergah northwest of riyadh said his group embarks on programs for local residents and the surrounding neighborhoods

'the social committee also includes volunteers and scouts who saluted prince turki upon arrival" he said

'the support extended to the groups will be an investment in the future of saudi youth" he said. 'we are indebted to participants who engage with our appeal for support.

Muhammad al-zamzami a dentist expressed optimism that the social forum would yield positive results

'participant groups were upbeat and euphoric regarding the outcome of tonight's social forum" he said. 'as young as they are they are confident that they can contribute to society even if in small ways.

'we wanted to shed light on our work with orphans in a bid to have our voice heard" said shahinas hosni spokesperson of the sanabel club volunteers

'we are more privileged than them and this is why it is our duty to uplift them and raise awareness on their plight" said hosni a student at a medical technology college in cairo egypt.

Other members of the group include female students from other universities such as the princess nora university in riyadh

Many guests said they were planning to join volunteer groups

'attending this social forum is a new experience for me" neveen al-ogmi a public relations manager at a medical company. 'the enthusiasm of the volunteers was refreshing and inspiring

Abdulrahman al-hamed a teacher at the technical college said that both he and his family attended the event in support of their daughter a young volunteer

Groups participating in the forum included social committees in ergah and al-ezdhia such as rekaaz wa3i awlad al-riyadh (also known as 'riyadh boys') sanabel tanawie khair tv channel waie medical club asail and amanah.
