(MENAFN - Arab News) Two people were killed and several were injured when a bus traveling from jeddah to riyadh with 47 passengers on board collided head-on with a truck loaded with dairy products near taif on wednesday morning.
Authorities have declared a state of emergency in hospitals across the region in the wake of the accident said siraj al-hamdain health ministry spokesman in taif.
Authorities have deployed dozens of ambulances including three helicopters to shift injured passengers to different hospitals
The bus which belongs to the saudi public transport company (saptco) was heading to riyadh when it collided with a truck belonging to a popular dairy company near the um al-doum bridge near taif at 4 a.m. 'we received the information about the accident at 4:25 a.m. and reached the accident site within 15 minutes with 16 ambulances and three helicopters to evacuate injured passengers" ali al-ghamdi of the saudi red crescent society told arab news on wednesday
'health ministry officials also sent an additional 15 ambulances to the scene" he said. 'six passengers sustained serious injuries and were shifted in three helicopters while 24 passengers were transferred in red crescent ambulances.
'twenty-two of the injured passengers were transferred to a local hospital where they are said to be in stable condition while 12 passengers were transferred to a military hospital and six to king abdulaziz hospital in taif" he said. 'two people died at the scene and eight are said to be in critical condition" he said
Fifteen exclusively deployed medical teams led by dr. saeed al-zahrani are working to provide treatment to the injured said al-hamdain.
