Extraordinary Meeting of the Arab League Council Kicks Off


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) iro April 08 -The extraordinary meeting of the Arab League Council kicked off at the foreign ministerial level at the arab league general headquarters here on Wednesday under Moroccan Foreign Minister Salahuddin Mizwar whose country currently chairs the Arab League Council . The meeting held upon a Palestinian request and also attended by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the Arab League Secretary General Dr. Nabil Al Arabi will focus on the updates of the US -sponsored Middle East peace talks on the Palestinian -Israeli track in addition to the release of a fourth batch of Palestinian detainees held in Israeli jails. The attendants will also discuss recent Israeli threats against the Palestinian Government and the need to strengthen the Palestinian position financially through activating the Arab financial safety net and supporting the PLO's decision to apply to join 15 international organisations conventions and institutions. Abbas also presented a detailed report on the outcomes of the palestinian-isreli negotiations and the recent tripartite meeting including palestinian israeli and US officials in addition to the future horizons of the palestinian drive. Palestinian president also asked the extraordinary foreign ministerial meeting to implement the arab resolutions related to providing the financial aman 'safety' net which kuwait's 25th Arab summit endorsed at the value of US Dollars 100 million a month and reaffirming arab absolute position rejecting the jewish state of israeli and never to raise it up at the negotiating table. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas arrived here Tuesday for a visit to Egypt during which he participate in the said meeting
