UAE- Firm to pay Dh190000 for stealing electricity

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The abu dhabi civil court has ordered a contracting company to pay dh190000 to the abu dhabi distribution company (addc) for using electricity illegally

The misdemeanors court had earlier convicted the contracting company of stealing power supply and slapped a dh20000 fine on it. the appeals court and the cassation court upheld the verdict.

According to court records addc filed a lawsuit demanding that the contracting firm pay dh403000 for using electricity illegally and an additional amount as compensation for “moral damage”. adcc requested the court to compensate it with the amount lying in the company’s bank accounts.

In its preliminary ruling the abu dhabi civil court appointed an engineering expert to estimate the value of the illegal electricity consumption of the company who pegged it at dh190000.

The court however did not order any compensation for moral damages as the adcc did not explain the type of moral damage it suffered.
