(MENAFN - #Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Libyan General National Congress (GNC) (Parliament) appointed Abdullah Al-Thinni on Tuesday as Prime Minister and asked him to form a new government within a week, to serve until upcoming parliament elections

GNC spokesman Omar Hamdan told KUNA that Al-Thinni''''s appointment followed a decision to sack ex-premier Ali Zeidan on March 11

Hamdan added that after formation of the new government by Al-Thinni, discussions will foc on parliament election

Last night, Al-Thinni submitted a letter to the GNC demanding that he and his government be given more power instead of acting as care-taker

He said in the letter that he and his ministers would resign unless these powers were given and the GNC stopped interfering in the government''''s affairs

The parliament chose to keep Al-Thinni after failing to reach a deal on a new premier, and allowed him a week to form the new government
