(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) All proceeds from Sketch Muscat, an event to be held at MuscArt gallery on April 19 will be donated to UNICEF's Children of Syria appeal fund.

As the conflict enters its fourth year, Muscat based artist Sue Pownall aims to raise awareness about the plight of Syrian children while raising funds for UNICEF's Children of Syria appeal. The money will be used to buy medicines and school supplies. ''It's such an awful situation. It's year four of the crisis and the children need medical support, nutrition, clothing, shelter and schooling. If people don't do something to help, there will be a lost generation.

''We shouldn't wait for governments to contribute to humanitarian causes, we should do it on a personal level and take on as much of the responsibility as possible,'' said Sue.

She believes charity events not only raise funds but also help raise awareness in the community. ''Everyone is welcome to participate in the Sketch Muscat event, no matter what skill level they have. People will have the opportunity to draw the view outside the MuscArt gallery. There will also be still life displays and participants can draw portraits of each other.

''Sketch Muscat will run for the whole day, and people are free to come whenever they like and stay as long as they like as it's a very open an inclusive event. Suggested donations for adults are RO5 and RO2 for children. If people want to donate more, that's fine, and if they can't afford that much, any donation is helpful. The proceeds from Sketch Muscat will be handed over to Osama Makawi, representative of the UNICEF in the sultanate.''

Alexandra Hoepfner, manager, MuscArt added, ''We are happy to support this worthy cause. The conflict has displaced millions of people and we should all work together to provide them with the basics which so many of us take for granted. People can attend anytime between 10am and 5pm. We encourage people to bring in their own material
