(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) The ras al khaimah criminal court sentenced two arab residents to six months in jail for committing robberies at takeaway restaurants
The court presided by chief judge hamad abdul karim also ordered the deportation of the duo after serving their jail term.
As per court records the case unfolded earlier this year when a number of managers of fast food outlets informed the rak police that unidentified robbers broke into their eateries damaged the glass windows and robbed money.
The criminal investigations department (cid) of the rak police arrested the robbers based on the footage recorded by the surveillance cameras at the outlets. the public prosecution charged them with robbery and destruction of property.
Dh2000 fine for fraud
The first circuit of the rak misdemeanour court ordered an asian resident to pay a fine of dh2000 for committing fraud racketeering and embezzling dh7000. he was also sentenced to six months in jail to be followed by deportation. the victim an asian woman told the police that the accused called her last month claiming she won dh1 million in a raffle draw. he persuaded her to transfer dh7000 to his private bank account to claim the prize.
The rak police arrested the accused and referred him to the rak public prosecution. the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges claiming that five cell phone numbers including the one used in the fraud were registered under his name without his knowledge.
