(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Experts including environmentalists from Oman, Qatar, UAE and other GCC countries are meeting at the third International Conference for Waste Management 2014 to find solutions to manage waste effectively and efficiently.
The two-day conference began at Al Bustan Palace, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel on Monday.
''Every country requires a different set of rules to manage waste efficiently. Waste management will have to be a part of the growth plan,'' said Goutham Reddy, director of Al Ahlia Environmental Services.
Dr Lulwa Ali from the Department of Environment Sciences of the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research said, ''When fertilisers are added to the soil, they create a chain that contributes to pollution.
''The fertilisers get into the soil and are absorbed by the tree, emissions from which are not pure. This is where we need awareness. The product of such soil or tree will have an impact on human lives, too.''
There is a wide gap between awareness and implementation. Awareness about using the correct fertiliser will affect the soil less, they added.
