Sas centre aims to train 120 Omani youths annually ITA


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The Information Technology Authority (ITA) on Monday inaugurated the Sas Centre for Virtual Reality at Knowledge Oasis Muscat under the auspices of Sheikh al Fadl bin Mohammed al Harthy, secretary general in the Council of Ministers.

Built at a cost of RO3.72mn, the state of the art centre will be a regional hub for the development of virtual reality projects and multimedia content for local and international markets.

''The centre plans to train as many as 120 Omani youths annually to help them establish their own enterprises specialising in producing reality simulation programmes,'' said Said Ahmed al Hadhrami, ITA, media specialist, information and awareness division.

''Reality simulation programmes or virtual reality creates virtual 3D environments. Special devices are used to achieve the highest possible degree of reality. Virtual reality applications are used for multiple purposes, such as training, education, experimentation and entertainment, education, oil and gas, tourism, defence, environment, industry, architecture, engineering and heritage,'' Hadhrami added.

The centre will develop a local talent pool by bridging the gap between academia and the local and international markets' requirements.

It will also help develop their skills in the field of digital design, animation and programming of virtual reality projects.

The centre aims to develop Arabic digital content in multimedia and virtual reality which will motivate young Omanis to establish businesses in these fields.

The training programme also aims to develop the skills of Omani youth in 3D design and programming of reality simulation projects. <
