(MENAFN - Arab News) A three-day international workshop on nuclear safety concluded at the naif arab university for security sciences (nauss) affirming the necessity of adhering to un resolutions on nuclear security.
'it aimed at improving regional and international cooperation developing regional and international mechanisms to strengthen the process of carrying out un resolutions related to nuclear security and looking at the official procedures followed in preparing specialist reports into carrying out un resolutions and preventing the spread of nuclear weapons in the region and other parts of the world" an official at the nauss media center said on monday.
organized by nauss in cooperation with the ministry of foreign affairs and the united nations last week the workshop was attended by experts from various arab countries as well as the general secretariat of the arab league the general secretariat of the gulf cooperation council (gcc) the arab atomic energy agency the international atomic energy agency (iaea) and the middle east and north africa financial action task force (menafatf).
jaman rashid bin ragosh president of naif university stressed the importance of this workshop which aims to affirm the necessity of adhering to the un resolutions on nuclear security developing a methodology to gain the information needed to carry out un resolutions connected to nuclear security and connected to preventing the spread of nuclear weapons.
ragosh also praised the distinguished relationship between the university and the un and its various organizations.
he said nauss has created a specific academic diploma in nuclear security which was developed in cooperation with the iaea.
he also stressed the central role played by the un security council in actualizing global peace in the light of recent world events that necessitate cooperation in all areas of security and highlighted the great efforts of the kingdom in carrying out un security council international resolutions through the formation of a specialist committee involving various related sectors.
the university head also thanked custodian of the two holy mosques king abdullah crown prince salman and interior minister prince mohammed bin naif for supporting the vision and mission of the university and its activities.
the other participants also stressed on the need for the creation of suitable mechanisms to prevent the violation of the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and the role of national systems and laws the roles of government and private institutions the control and surveillance of goods
and cargo and the current international agreements for nuclear security and preventing the spread of nuclear weapons.
