France's Lafarge, Switzerland's Holcim to merge companies


(MENAFN) France"s Lafarge and Switzerland"s Holcim, the world"s two largest cement makers, have recently discussed a merger plan to create a company with USD55 billion stock market value, according to the Daily Star



The two companies are expected to make USD40 billion-worth combined sales after the industry's biggest-ever agreement



A source said: "The boards [of Lafarge and Holcim] met Saturday and approved the proposal. An official communication is due Monday.



The two companies had already issued statements Friday announcing they were in advanced talks to merge, a deal which would help them slash costs
