Oman- MECA installs Plasbins to promote recycling

(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) The Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs (MECA) has installed Plasbins at its main office in Al Khuwayr to segregate garbage and to promote recycling and conservation.

Created using used plastic, Plasbin is a venture of Ibn Sarhan United Projects (iSUP).

A Plasbin was placed at the entrance of the ministry's headquarters on Sunday. Apart from this, several Plasbins have been installed in different rooms of the ministry. ''The aim is to recycle plastic and save the environment. It is an initiative that we all can contribute to,'' said Martin Mbutu, who has designed the colourful waste bins.

The company is also organising talks and workshops at schools to spread environmental awareness among students. ''Students are encouraged to come up with ideas on conservation,'' he said.

He added that these bins may be placed in offices of other ministries in the near future. There are plans to place them in various parks as well.

Last year, the company had placed Plasbins at Muscat Grand Mall.

''We are trying to involve more people in the project. It will be good if schools, hospitals and ministries join us for the cause. We have got a very good response from schools, and we wil visit hospitals soon,'' said Sarhan al Habsi, operations and finance director, iSU
