It was the 20-year-old from belgrade that struck the first blow however as she began her maiden wta tour-level final in stunning fashion breaking ivanovic to love on the mexican hard courts.
But jaksic would quickly be initiated onto the big stage by ivanovic as the world number 13 broke four times in succession on her way to the first set.
Jaksic would break ivanovic when she was serving for the set at 5-1 but jaksic - despite saving three set points at 0-40 down - could not deny the former world number one sealing the opener.
It looked like the second set would be a procession as ivanovic broke early again before holding for a 3-0 lead.
Jaksic though got her first hold of serve on the board and her momentum saw her set up multiple break-point chances on ivanovic's serve in the fifth game.
But ivanovic used all her experience to fend off each of the five break points she faced including digging her way out of a 0-40 hole to go 4-1 up and kill off jaksic's resistance.
Another break - ivanovic's sixth of the encounter - gave her the chance to serve for the title and she did so to love to wrap up the final in just over an hour.
Jaksic's breakout run to the final should see her rise to the fringe of the wta tour's top 100 while ivanovic's title will catapult her above the 12th-ranked flavia pennetta after the latter was an early casualty in monterrey.
It was ivanovic's 13th career title and second in 2014 after she claimed the asb classic in january.
