(MENAFN - Arab Times) A team of Kuwait consulate members in Istanbul, Turkey, managed to convince Kuwaiti citizen Muhammad Al-Wa'laan, the son of former MP Mubarak Al-Wa'laan, to give up the idea of entering Syria to fight alongside jihadi groups fighting Bashar Assad's regime, reports Al-Rai daily. The intervention by members of Kuwait diplomatic mission stationed in Istanbul came after the father, Mubarak Al-Wa'laan notified Kuwait's Foreign Affairs Ministry to move in swiftly to stop his son from entering Syria and bring him back to Kuwait.
According to diplomatic sources, the former MP had called Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Khaled Al-Jarallah and informed him about his son who is studying in Jordan when he disclosed the intention to travel to Turkey with plan to enter Syria to participate in the war with one jihadi faction fighting Assad's regime.
Sources added Kuwait's consulate in Istanbul was notified to take necessary action in coordination with the Turkish authorities to stop the former MP's son from crossing the border to Syria, and to convince him to return to Kuwait. They explained the consulate cooperated with the Turkish authorities and managed to convince him from traveling to Syria, and to return. Upon his arrival to Kuwait onboard a Kuwait Airways flight, the concerned agencies at the airport held Al-Wa'laan's passport for investigation later on
