Henry pyrgos crossed twice before the break while niko matawalu also scored a try as the hosts claimed a 19-10 lead at half time.

Wp nel's converted try helped edinburgh take the lead but the contest remained close as tovey booted another two penalties.

And although replacement ross wardle set up a nervy finish with a late try for newport they were forced to settle for a losing bonus point.
