Global food prices reach its highest since March 2013


(MENAFN) Food prices have boosted globally to their highest in a year in March on unfavorable weather for crops and political tensions over Ukraine, according to Oman Observer



The Food and Agriculture Organisation"s (FAO) price index, which measures monthly price changes for a basket of cereals, oilseeds, dairy, meat and sugar, increased 2.3 percent in average from February



FAO senior economist Abdolreza Abbassian said: "Political tensions of the sort we see today have the risk of taking us back to a Cold War situation, where countries make purchases of grain not only based on price differences offered but also because of political alliances."
