(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Gauhar khan talks food and why she feels lucky to be in the spotlight of late
Vivacious beautiful and very outspoken gauhar khan is in dubai to help her sister zakia jeelani open a new italian restaurant. but for the former model and actress this trip is a combination of holiday family and fans. “this is my first holiday after more than six months. it just so happened that my sister is opening a new restaurant at jumeirah. i thought it is a great opportunity to promote it in some way and create a buzz for her new venture by helping her out and also give an opportunity to my fans to meet me because my fans from every city every country are like ‘when are you coming?’. i thought this is a nice way of combining family holiday and fans!”
Tonight gauhar will co-host a dinner at le duplex dubai with her sister zakia. the restaurant will be serving ‘gauhar’s special’ a handpicked menu of her favorite signature dishes especially created for the evening. when we spoke to her she was in the midst of choosing her favourites from the menu. “there will be a lot of basil in it for sure.”
Talking about food gauhar revealed to us that she learnt the fine art of cooking from her mother. “i love cooking. when i was six or seven years old i used to follow my mother around the kitchen because i was like her tail. i was fascinated with the cooking activities. the only food critic that i had was my brother because i would only make one potato or one piece of prawn just for him and he would love it so much and say “i love your cooking but your husband is going to starve to death because you make such small quantities!” i am a good cook and i cook whenever i get time. nowadays its more of a pleasure thing for me.”
Gauhar who emerged the winner at season seven of reality show bigg boss was a favourite among the housemates for her cooking skills. “we used to get mutton and chicken very rarely because of the budget but whenever it would come i would make it. everybody loved the chicken mutton and fish that i cooked.”
When we asked her whether she was in touch with salman khan after bigg boss considering she shared a rocky relationship with him during the show she said “no i have not been in touch with salman there is no reason for that. i was invited for the finale party of the show where i met him last.”
She added: “from the house i am only in touch with sophia apoorva and shilpa agnihotri.” she met her current boyfriend kushal tandon on the same reality show so does he enjoy her home cooked food? “kushal loves all my non-vegetarian preparations. in the bigg boss house as well he would wait for chicken or fish to come so that i would make it. he definitely loves my cooking!”
After bigg boss 7 gauhar khan and kushal tandon have become stronger as a couple. the duo recently appeared together on the reality show khatron ke khiladi. “it was an amazing experience for me. i got to overcome my fears. i am so glad i did that show. things that i would not have ever tried in my life i will probably try it at least once.”
Post khatron ke khiladi 5 shooting and promotions; gauhar khan flew to switzerland to join rajeev khandelwal and his team for the shooting of the film fever her first lead role. apart from television so far gauhar has been part of movies like rocket singh: sales man of the year (2009) and ishaqzaade (2012).
Gauhar admitted she is in a happy place right now be it with her professional commitments or her personal life because life certainly changed after winning bigg boss.
“life is brilliant it’s never been better i’m getting so much love and appreciation. i can only be humble about it as i think i am lucky and fortunate to receive it all.”
The girl with the perfect figure will be wearing an outfit by sonam and paras modi and jewellery by a local designer for her dubai razzmatazz. “dubai has the best of everything from around the world. it gives you the best combination of all cultures from around the world. it is so lovely to be here. i love the different food that is available here.
