Kalimat shortlisted for Childrens and Young Adult Publisher Award at London Book Fair


(MENAFNEditorial) Kalimat, the Sharjah based award-winning publisher of Arabic children's books, has been shortlisted for the Children's and Young Adult Publisher Award category of the London Book Fair's International Publishing Industry Excellence Awards 2014.



The award is given to the best international children's publisher who demonstrated innovation in a title or series and whose publication has created significant impact, resulting in critical acclaim, high sales, and media coverage.



Tamer Said, Business Development Manager at Kalimat Group, expressed his happiness at this significant international recognition. Being shortlisted to get such a prestigious award from London Book Fair reflects the publisher's pioneering position in children's books industry in the UAE and Arab World and will help draw more attention to publishing and children's literature in the region, particularly as Emirati and Arab publishers have proven their ability to compete on the international stage



"Being shortlisted will help strengthen cooperation between Kalimat and international publishers seeking to translate outstanding Arabic books into other languages. As we have over 140 titles in our portfolio of publications, including some award-winning books, this shortlist will encourage major publishers to translate more books from our publications with the aim to enhance cultural exchange," Tamer Said remarked

The winner will be announced at an invitation only evening event that will be held on Tuesday 8 April 2014, on the sidelines of the London Book Fair which will take place from 8 to 10 April.



The International Publishing Industry Excellence Awards are presented by The London Book Fair (LBF), in association with The UK Publishers Association (The PA) with the aim to recognize international publishing industry excellence and to celebrate achievement across the whole business of publishing in the world



These brand new international awards for the book industry will consist of 15 categories, the most prominent of which will be the Lifetime Achievement Award, the Digital Publishing Entrepreneur of the Year Award, the Copyright Protection Award, the Children's and Young Adult Publisher Award, the International Educational Learning Resources Award and the International Literary Translation Initiative Award. Sponsors of the awards include the UK Publishers Association, the British Council International, and the Publishers Weekly magazine
