UAE- SME World to be a regular event


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The inaugural sme world 2014 has been a great success and a grand celebration of entrepreneurship and the event will become an annual event according to its organiser

“this is the first one but the response has been phenomenal. we have got over 3000 people attended during the last two days. it has been a big success” shantanu a.p. chief executive officer of spi group told khaleej times on the sidelines of the summit which concluded last week.



With the theme ‘enabling global ambitions’ the event concluded last thursday that was held under the aegis of dubai sme and dubai economic council (dec) and organised by spi group who are known for developing innovative event and content platforms for businesses in the uae. the two-day conference was also sponsored by emirates nbd du and al futtaim motors.


“we look forward to organising the summit next year and to the continued support of dubai sme and dubai economic council” he added.


Talking about the objectives of the summit shantanu said: “overall objectives were to provide high quality networking high quality knowledge and give them [smes] visibility and recognition.”


Sme world hosted almost 100 top smes from across the region and they also showcased their products and services present their success stories and shared their growth plans with industry governments investors and the general public.


The event validates the uae’s commitment to encourage entrepreneurship and to provide a strong ecosystem for small and medium enterprises. it showcased the spirit of entrepreneurship in the uae and the wider region.


The summit featured panel discussions with experts and industry leaders on issues related to sme growth and development. sme workshops hosted q&a sessions with the crème de la crème of top consultancy firms to provide advice and business guidance.


Entrepreneurs need to learn a lot from experts to expand business so workshops provided them in-depth knowledge on core subjects according to shantanu.


“we had workshop in franchise as a lot of people running successful businesses but they don’t know how to expand out of the home market. we also had a workshop how ceos got derailed. there was another workshop for getting international certification for switzerland for quality” he explained.


The two-day conference featured a business olympics with several smes competing with each other in strategy and team building exercises. a speed networking session enabled participants to convert potential interest into strong leads. the conference nominated and presented the sme champions awards based on a public online poll.
