(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) As many as 67 works of art, including oil on canvas paintings and sculptures, celebrating Omani heritage are being displayed at Bait Muzna Gallery.
The exhibition titled, Embodiment of the Omani Heritage' showcases works by Omani artists Hussain Obaid and Saud al Hunaini.
Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi, secretary general in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who inaugurated the exhibition said, ''I am honoured to open the exhibition. I have been following the works of these two artists with great interest. I hope they become a source of inspiration for the younger generation. I am hopeful that the paintings and sculptures will attract many collectors.''
Sayyid Badr, who calls himself an amateur collector of art, said, ''Both these artists show a high degree of craftsmanship and technique.
''Their works make good collectibles. Who knows perhaps, one day, our grandchildren will be grateful to us.''
While talking about a portrait of his that was gifted to him by one of the artists at the exhibition he said, ''I am touched by the gesture. It was totally unexpected. I am going to pass it on to my daughters who had asked me to get such a portrait done.''
Obaid said, ''Saud and I have focused on the Omani heritage and history. So we used themes that are interlinked in some way. Horses, deserts, forts, etc, are all an intrinsic part of Omani culture. One painting depicts a horse in the backdrop of a mountain, while many others show horses in a race.
''Some of the paintings were inspired by imagination and some are inspired from real-life incidents.''
The prices of the painting and sculptures range from RO2,650 to RO7,900. The exhibition which began on Monday will go on unti
