(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Maserati Ghibli, the first ever luxury sports executive sedan created by Italian luxury automotive brand Maserati - marked its debut in Oman at a grand event organised by Alfardan Motors, the official importer of Maserati in the sultanate.

The launch was inaugurated by Omar Alfardan, president of the Alfardan Group of Companies, and was attended by VIP guests and customers. With the launch of the Ghibli, Maserati marks its entrance into the E - segment backed by strong product knowledge and ambitious sales goals. While upholding the tradition, luxury and performance that have marked the brand for a century, the Ghibli opens up the brand to new buyers by being priced more accessibly.

It reflects the company's belief that a growing number of luxury sports sedan buyers are looking to make an individual statement by setting themselves apart through a car that is distinctive, elegant and luxurious. Among its competitor set, the Ghibli promises to stand out as the only model that can truly provide a high level of individuality and exclusivity without compromising on performance, comfort and style. The Ghibli will play a significant role in Maserati's growth plan to produce 50,000 units annually by the year 2015.

Manufactured to latest benchmark quality standards in Maserati's new production facilities in Grugliasco close to Turin, the Ghibli consists of two versions in the petrol range; Ghibli and Ghibli S. These boast of two new-generation twin turbocharged 3lt V6 engines (330 & 410hp) and eight-speed ZF automatic transmission.

The engines are manufactured by Ferrari in Maranello for exclusive use of Maserati. With its power output of 410hp the Ghibli S races to 100km/h in five seconds and reaches a top speed of 285km/h. The Ghibli delivers 330hp, a top speed of 263km/h and acceleration of 0 to 100km/h in 5.6 seconds.

Dynamic and precise handling is guaranteed by the car's perfectly balanced 50:50 weight distribution while the sophisticated suspension system and limited slip differential make every ride enjoyable. Advanced suspension, Brembo brakes and a high tech body made of aluminium and magnesium ensure an ease of performance and comfort. Other features include 18 to 21'' alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights & rear lights and rear-view parking camera. The Ghibli enters the E-segment of the sports premium market with a tangible advantage in cabin craftsmanship and detailing.

Within its striking aerodynamic silhouette, the cabin offers rich Italian leathers, woods and other high quality materials that are at the heart of the Maserati brand. The Ghibli's interior is built around a driver interface that is intuitive, uncluttered and simple to use. It sets itself apart with a unique, cockpit-inspired dashboard design that perfectly matches its sporty and youthful character without compromising on the highest level of refinement and sophistication.

Key elements such as the central 8.4" Maserati Touch Control and the fine Poltrona Frau leather finish underline the cabin's timeless sporting character. The clever interior packaging also incorporates 60:40 folding rear seats and 500lt of luggage capacity. It also provides class-leading front legroom and despite its couplike silhouette, comfortable head room for all occupants. Optional features include the 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins high end audio system, WLAN based Wi-Fi and a wide range of customization options that cater for the most demanding individuals. The starting price for the Ghibli is RO28,000.

While the Ghibli features all classic Maserati design traits, its exterior emphasises its determined personality. Sculpted forms and well-defined volumes connected by clean lines that create movement: the Ghibli captures the attention with its emphasis on sporty glamour and, captivates with its strong personality.

As for safety, the Ghibli is manufactured as per the highest quality standards of the World Class Manufacturing (WCM) concept at Maserati's new stateof- the-art factory near Turin. Testing during the car's development phase included more than 6mn test kilometres and extreme temperature testing in hot and cold climates from Morocco to Sweden. A total of more than 700 control checks are completed for each car in production plus final quality audit and onroad test before final delivery to the customer. Maserati is a Italian luxury car manufacturer which was established on December 1, 1914, in Bologna (Italy) by its founder Alfieri Maserati and his brothers.

Their passion and talent contributed to the company DNA: innovation, excellence, and challenge, which are reflected in the brand's claim ''The absolute opposite of ordinary''. Today, the company's headquarters and main production location are in Modena (Italy). A second production location, based on the highest quality standards of the World Class Manufacturing (WCM) concept, was inaugurated in Grugliasco, near Turin (Italy), in 2013.

Maserati has been owned by Fiat since 1993. Its emblem, the trident, was inspired by the fountain on the Piazza del Nettuno in the center of Bologna (Italy). It is a symbol that ties together the brothers, their hometown, and the artistry and craftsmanship for which Bologna and Emilia-Romagna are known.
