(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) The Information Technology Authority (ITA) has expanded its green initiatives to cover equipment procurement, transport, energy management, as well as data and application storage.
A senior executive of ITA said that the initiatives aim at promoting green computing and ensuring the responsible use of energy among staff and members of the community. ''We conduct 95 per cent of our communication through e-mails and the SharePoint portal.
Computing equipment are put on sleep mode when idle. Employees are encouraged to use the car pool system to report to work.'' Also, e-Oman mugs and water bottles are distributed among all employees to discourage the use of disposable cups. ''Newspapers and other discarded printouts are recycled and use of reusable cloth bags is encouraged.''
For the effective implementation of the initiative, the authority has set up three teams. A compliance team identifies best practices within the IT industry and adopts green processes, procedures and guidelines. The event management team creates knowledge-sharing platforms for green practices through seminars, workshops and training. The awareness team promotes the green mission among staff and the community.
ITA has already won major accolades for its green initiative, such as the Oman Green Awards and the Green Habitat Prize, she said.
