Andrew Long appointed as new HSBC Oman CEO

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) HSBC Bank Oman SAOG has announced the appointment of Andrew Long as its new chief executive officer. This change was prompted by the move of outgoing CEO, Ewan Stirling, who is taking on a new role as head of UK transformation with HSBC Group and will be based in London.

Upon leaving his position as CEO, Stirling said, ''It has been a privilege to have led the HSBC operations in Oman for the last seven years. There are many memories I will cherish, and many friendships I have made. In particular, to have had the opportunity to effect the merger with Oman International Bank in 2012, working with so many great people to make it happen, is something I am extremely proud of. I am confident that under the leadership of Andrew, who brings an enormous wealth of experience to the role, HSBC Bank Oman will continue to grow from strength to strength.''

Long said, ''I am delighted to take on the role of CEO for HSBC Bank Oman. Having spent the last three years leading the HSBC business in Egypt, I am looking forward to the new challenge of banking in Oman. HSBC has a long and proud history in Oman and I am incredibly excited by the opportunity we have, continuing to support our clients locally, using the strengths and expertise of HSBC globally. We are committed to Oman, as demonstrated by the merger in 2012, and have a clear role to play helping to develop Oman's economy to the benefit of all our stakeholders.''

Long joins from HSBC Bank Egypt, where he was deputy chairman and chief executive for the last three years, a press release said on Tuesday.

A career HSBC banker, Long has been with the group for over 30 years and brings international experience from Hong Kong, Australia, the United States and the UK, in addition to the Middle East region.
