Qatar- Katara to mark World Autism Awareness Day tomorrow


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Katara will observe World Autism Awareness Day tomorrow by hosting a sport day for about 100 children from Shafallah Centre for Children with Special Needs



The event 'Sport Celebration on World Autism Awareness Day will be held at Katara



UN member states, NGOs and private and public organisations celebrate April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day based on a proposal by Qatar at the UN General Assembly. The day is celebrated to raise awareness about autism and its symptoms. Medical researches have shown that early detection and intervention can help in the treatment of the disease and so awareness is needed



Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, General Manager, Katara, said Katara is hosting the event as part of social services provided by government agencies and that culture includes awareness and knowledge.



The goal of the activities, he said, is not limited to understanding autism but a call for action regarding children with special needs in general and those with autism in particular, "that they are part of society and it is our responsibility to integrate them in it.



He stressed Katara strives to achieve a shared vision of a world more open to everyone and provides its services to all segments of society.



It will be an open sport day, featuring a march from 9am to noon from Sukar Pasha to Mamig restaurant. Children with autism and employees from Shafallah will attend.



Activities include games, competitions and entertainment and prizes and gifts will be distributed to participants
