Qatar- New director appointed at Neurosciences Institute


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) yesterday announced that Professor Ashfaq Shuaib (pictured) has been appointed as Director of the new Neurosciences Institute.



In partnership with Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar, the institute will address the most common neurological and neuropsychiatric ailments in Qatar, such as stroke, epilepsy and traumatic brain injury. It will improve patient care by embedding research and education into everyday clinical practice



"Injuries and disorders of the brain represent a major healthcare challenge for Qatar. Bringing together an inter-professional network of clinicians and neuroscientists, the institute will become a key resource for Qatar and the region, enhancing patient care and improving quality of life for our patients," said Dr Hanan Al Kuwari, Managing Director, HMC.



"Through long-term, sustainable partnerships with local organisations and leading international centres, the institute will initiate research to support evidence-based clinical improvements. It will be instrumental in providing a framework to facilitate translation of latest developments in the field into benefits at the bedside," said Prof. Shuaib



Prof. Shuaib is a world leader in stroke care. He joins HMC from Canada's University of Alberta where he held the position of Professor of Medicine and Director of the Division of Neurology
