Qatar- Empower 2014 successful

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Offsite learning activities capped the Empower 2014 youth conference organised by Reach Out To Asia (ROTA)

Emphasising the key theme 'Sports for Youth Empowerment', activities were conducted by Right to play (Lebanon), Coaches across continents (the US), Liverpool Sport Club Foundation (the UK), Magic Bus (India), Aspire Academy, Aspetar, Qatar Football Association and Qatar Olympic Committee. Aspire Academy conducted several sport training events on leadership at Aspire stadiums. Forty young men and women shared values and concepts of competition, leadership and personal development

At the Coaches Across Continents activity, each participant learned up to six games used to enhance communication skills, develop future leaders, and create self-directed learners as they continue with their work in their home communities

Magic Bus, Cruyff Foundation, Right to Play, and Liverpool LFC Foundation also had their activities focusing on the use of games and fitness exercises to experience different aspects of decision-making, project planning, respecting others, team-working and expressing personal emotions that do not harm others.

Under the themes of 'Leadership', 'Citizenship' and 'Education', Right To Play held three entertaining stations helping youth ice break, explore methods of non-verbal communication, experience group cohesion with supporting the leader, identify benefits of teamwork in achieving a common goal, recognise differences in human attributes and much more

After completing the sessions, delegates expressed thoughts and experiences in an artistic reflective learning session, followed by cultural performances and a youth-led closing ceremony

Mohamed Saleh, ROTA National Programmes Director, said Empower 2014 provided thousands of youth, for the sixth year in a row, with skills, knowledge and confidence to take leadership roles in addressing local and international issues of concern to them, especially in the areas of sustainable development and sports

"Support of partners from the region and the world and the presence of Dr Auma Obama made this year's conference as special as expected," he added

"We're thrilled with the success of Empower 2014, now an internationally recognised youth conference that shares ROTA's values in recognising the youth as agents of change and the leaders of tomorrow, "said Essa El Mannai, ROTA Director
