UAE- Two held for offering Dh600000 bribe


(MENAFN-Khaleej Times) the bribe was allegedly offered for writing off a fine imposed by the abu dhabi police against the contracting company since the latter had reneged on the contract by failing to complete the project on time

Two arabs employed with a contracting company which tied up with the abu dhabi police for a construction project have been referred to the criminal court on charges of bribing a public officer.


According to the case records an officer of the abu dhabi police who serves as a project engineer assigned to oversee the construction of a building for the abu dhabi police lodged a complaint with the cid that he had been offered a dh600000 bribe by the contracting company.


The bribe was allegedly offered for writing off a fine imposed by the abu dhabi police against the contracting company since the latter had reneged on the contract by failing to complete the project on time. the police officer claimed that the executive manager of the company wanted him to write off the delay fines worth dh7.5 million and offered dh600000 in exchange.


After securing an arrest warrant the officer in question was instructed by the cid to tell the manager that he would accept the bribe. the second accused in the case was arrested red-handed when he handed over a cheque to the officer. on being arrested both accused reportedly confessed to the charges levelled against them.
