(MENAFN - Qatar News Agency) The debut edition of the expo is a quantum leap for Qatar's medical sector, Al Mohannadi said. "Top multinational medical and pharmaceutical companies from Germany, Switzerland, Italy and other countries are providing their products and innovative solutions which match highest international quality standards. They would be looking to expand their exports." Replying to a Qatar News Agency (QNA) question on regulatory quality standards, Ibteihaj Al Ahmadani said, "From my experience Qatar only allows products from reputable companies that match international quality standards." On how holding the expo in 2015 at a time when Qatar finalises its national health insurance scheme benefit, she replied, "It is timely and opportunity for local and international companies to show products and stake holders to network at a time when Qatar is expanding its public and private healthcare sectors." The Qatar National Health Insurance Scheme will spur foreign capital investments in private sector healthcare which is poised for growth, she said, and praised the government initiative to pass the first health insurance law recently. "This law will stimulate investments as private companies will be obliged to provide health insurance to their employees. Qatar's economy is growing which is bringing in more foreign workers. The growing population needs a strong system of universal healthcare services," she said. The QMED will present a 'Blue Zone' dedicated to diabetes. This is to focus on the condition since Qatar's per capita diabetes sufferers is high in the Middle East, Al Mohannadi said. Qatar's per capita healthcare touches US 1,900 (QR 6,918 approximately) per year compared to other countries in the region whose per capita does not exceed US 900.
