Qatar new budget hits new high of QAR 225.7 bln
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Qatari Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani signed on Sunday a decree approving QAR 225.7 billion (some USD 62 billion) budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2014-15, the biggest in the state's history
The figure reflects an increase of QAR 7.7 billion (USD 2.16 billion) or 3
5 percent compared with the last budget, Minister of Finance Ali Sharif Al-Emadi told reporters
"The new budget is geared to continue the implementation of programs and mega projects envisaged in the country's national strategy 2011-16 and the realization of the goals of the National Vision 2030," he said
"It reflects the government's desire to achieve sustainable economic growth and control inflation through balanced financial policies and efficient public spending," El-Emadi pointed out
The government seeks to further enhance the positive economic outlook and secure a six percent GDP this year. It prioritizes, under the instructions of the Amir, key projects in the areas of education, healthcare, transport and infrastructure
Among these projects are the Qatar Rail and the projects relating to the country's hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the minister added
The budget sets the oil prices at USD 65 per barrel and the expenditure at QAR 218.4 billion - 3.7 percent more than the last year budget
