(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Abdullah al Bakri, Minister of Manpower, signed contracts worth RO271,825 on Sunday to provide on the job training to citizens in professional and trade disciplines.
H E Hamad bin Khamis al Amri, Undersecretary for Labour Affairs in the Ministry of Manpower (MoM), said that these contracts were signed as part of ministry's efforts to boost quality of available manpower.
H E Amri said that as many as 27 contracts have been signed this year.
Training will be imparted to 102 citizens in various jobs such as heavy vehicle works, electricians and cashiers.
In the administrative, technical and craft training discipline 1,197 citizens have already enrolled for different courses.
The number of trainees in the administrative areas, including sales, cashiers, storekeeper, typing, computer-assisted drawing and customer service, is 352.
Meanwhile, the number of trainees enrolled in technical areas is 700. This includes electrical wiring, installation of heavy equipment, carpentry, welding and construction.
As many as 145 people have enrolled for jobs in the hospitality sector. Amri said that more such training contracts will be signed to strengthen the country's labour market.
