Dubai to host Omani products expo in Sept

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The organising committee of the Omani Products Exhibition (OPEX) last week announced that the third global expo will be held in Dubai from September 14-16.

After the successful expos in Riyadh and Qatar, the organising committee set its sights on Dubai to introduce Omani industrial products, which conform to international standards, to UAE businessmen, entrepreneurs and other communities as the emirate is a strong base for foreign investors and attracts businesses from various economic sectors especially those from the GCC countries.

The exhibition will also focus on different economic sectors like building materials, leather, food, pharmaceutical and polypropylene products, and handicrafts involving SMEs. It will also allow Omani industrialists to meet global business leaders in Dubai, which is a centre of trade and finance.

The launch ceremony, hosted by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was presided over by Atiq Juma Nasib, senior director, commercial services sector, Dubai Chamber, and was attended by Ayman Abdullah Hamed al Hasani, vice-chairman and head of the industry and mining committee, Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, representatives of the Public Authority for Investment Promotion and Export Development (Paiped), Oman's Ministry of Trade and Industry, and the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates, according to a press release said.

Announcing the exhibition, Hasani said the exhibition would be an ideal venue to liaise with and to reach out to all stakeholders. He added that Dubai was the obvious choice as the emirate is considered a big business hub and its preparations for hosting of Expo 2020 offers a lot of opportunities for building stronger trading ties.

Traditionally, Dubai enjoys a strategic location on the world economic map. The emirate is a major export and re-export hub in the region offering a strong base for Omani businesses to interact with major global business leaders in the emirate, said Hasani adding that Oman's non-oil exports to the UAE through its main export market in Dubai during 2013 was to the value of RO658mn in comparison to RO550mn during 2012, which is an increase of 19.6 per cent.

Nasib said that Oman and Dubai enjoy a very strong trading relationship as Dubai Chamber members' exports and re-exports in 2013 to Oman were six per cent of the GCC total. There is ample scope for the two sides to benefit from each other's capabilities and expertise, he added.
