Russia Bans Entry To 13 Canadian Officials, Including Several MPs


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Russia is taking action against Canada in retaliation to Canadian sanctions over the crisis in Ukraine. Russia imposed a travel ban Monday on 13 Canadian lawmakers and officials, including government House leader Peter Van Loan and Speaker of the House Andrew Scheer. Russia's Foreign Ministry said in Monday's statement that the move is a response to the "unacceptable action by the Canadian side that has inflicted serious damage to bilateral relations." Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird said the move doesn't alter Canada's stance on the issue, adding that "any country who thinks that in the 21st century you can simply rewrite the borders of Europe is wrong." In a separate development, the leaders of the G-7 countries announced Monday they are suspending their participation in the G-8 until Russia "changes course." The joint statement follows an emergency summit meeting in the Netherland
