Kuwait- Ethiopian maids wanted no more

(MENAFN- Arab Times) In an attempt to boycott Ethiopian housemaids, many citizens have refused to engage their services, reports Al-Rai daily. A source from the Domestic Personnel Department of the Interior Ministry said the recent murder of a 19-year old female citizen by an Ethiopian housemaid triggered the campaign by which many Ethiopians working in Kuwaiti homes have been sent back to recruitment agencies by sponsors

He noted the agencies are currently swamped with Ethiopian housemaids whose value has since dropped from KD 800 to KD 250. He reiterated that citizens will continue to press for the Interior Ministry to deport the Ethiopian housemaids after their residencies expire, without necessarily renewing their stay, for the safety of citizens and expatriates
