(MENAFN- Arab Times) A number of Arab media figures said here Monday that the Arab summit in Kuwait on Tuesday will be held under delicate and difficult conditions that require concerted efforts of the Arab leaders to be united to strengthen Arab solidarity and togetherness. In separate remarks to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on the sidelines of the preparatory meetings for the 25th Arab Summit, the media figures said Arab states pin great hopes on the Kuwait Summit to develop a constructive and fast wayout of the crises taking into account the higher interests of the Arab peoples. Chief Editor of (Qatar Tribune) Hassan Al-Ansari said the Arab peoples are anticipating applicable decisions from the Arab Summit which is being held here for the first time in order to move towards a better political, security and economic future
He praised the central and balance role played by Kuwait headed by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah while presiding over the summit to strengthen Arab-Arab ties and develop them within the framework of joint Arab action. For his part, media adviser and representative of Egyptian (Dar Al-Hilal) press foundation Salah Tayel said that all Arabs were now focusing on the upcoming Kuwait summit which is being held amids very critical conditions. He added that Kuwait summit "bears more issues and concerns", compared with previous summits, saying that the timing of the summit is "an achievement by itself"
Tayel praised the positions of Kuwait in support of Arab causes and its strong ties with the Arab countries that are based on mutual respect and non-interference in their internal affairs, a matter that gives it a status allowing it to confront all the difficulties on one hand, and respect of other countries of its views on the other. For his part, Bilal Al-Sabah, a political researcher in South Africa, stressed the importance of the "pivotal" issues to be addressed by the Arab summit, most notably the Palestinian issue, the crisis in Syria in addition to the latest developments in Yemen and Libya. He expressed his confidence that the Kuwait summit would be able to address pressing issues chiefly the Syrian crisis and human tragedy, thanks to its central and balanced role. Meanwhile, two Kuwaiti academics Monday commended the "major" role of Kuwait, under leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, in backing Arab causes in international conferences as well as boosting common Arab action. The academics, in separate statements to KUNA on the occasion of the 25th Arab Summit in Kuwait, said the high-level meeting was held amidst "exceptional and complicated" circumstances in the Arab countries, which required "honesty and transparency" when discussing inter-Arab relations. Kamal Ad-Deen Saleh, a professor of Political Sciences at Kuwait University (KU), said he was confident Kuwait's chairmanship of the summit would contribute to cementing Arab solidarity and unity
The Palestinian cause, the Syrian crisis and the development of the Arab League will be among key issues to be discussed by the Arab leaders, in addition to political, economic and security challenges in some Arab countries, he said. The complicated problems in the Arab region require rapid solutions, noted Saleh, while taking into consideration the improvement of security, stability and economic conditions of the Arab people
The Arab countries consider Kuwait as the "only" country in the Gulf that plays "an effective and influential" role to addressing disputes among the Gulf countries, said Saleh. Dr. Faisal Bu Sulaib, of Political Sciences Department at KU, said Kuwait was playing a leading regional role, citing the hosting of four major summits in less than a year. "Kuwait's foreign policy has returned to the period before the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait," he said. The fall of Saddam Hussein regime in 2003 and restoration of relations between Kuwait and Iraq "contributed to restoration of Kuwait's external relations with neighboring parties and the Arab countries in general," he said
