While the outcry that award-winning kerala actor shweta menon triggered in november saying she had been groped by a septuagenarian congress mp at a public programme is yet to fade in public mind there is now a sequel — with a new cast.
This time the scene has shifted to hapur in uttar pradesh the indian state known for its chauvinistic attitude towards women despite a string of powerful women politicians. the woman caught in the limelight is nagma the actor who created a splash more than a decade ago when it was whispered that she had bowled over indian cricketer sourav ganguly who was already married with a baby daughter.
Now the turmoil is over a congress politician allegedly making a pass at nagma — once again true to congress politicos’ style at a crowded public place.
The actor who is fighting the upcoming elections from meerut on a congress ticket was campaigning in hapur when the alleged incident occurred.
She was accompanied by congress mla gajraj sharma who is said to have embraced her and tried to kiss her. within minutes the act went viral on the internet.
The feisty nagma is said to have forcefully removed sharma’s straying hand and left the scene. she reportedly did not turn up at the function for the launch of her party office.
Sharma went incommunicado after the molestation allegation surfaced. his supporters tried to defend him saying he was trying to whisper something to her and had merely placed his hand on her back to protect her from the crowd. it was almost identical to the explanation trotted out by the septuagenarian in the shweta menon case last year.
People present at the event claim the mla was trying to grope nagma and even kissed her on the cheek. so much for congress leader rahul gandhi continuously trying to draw attention to the things his party has done for women’s empowerment.
