(MENAFN - Qatar News Agency) Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian voiced concern over the military tensions between Syria and Turkey, and called on both sides to show self-restraint.

"The military approach not only does not solve the problem, but it will make the things complicated," (IRNA) news agency quoted Amir Abdollahian as saying.

He reiterated that Tehran and Ankara are seriously pursuing a peaceful resolution to the Syrian crisis, and said, "Iran and Turkey are determined in their campaign against the terrorism and they welcome any political solution."

Amir Abdollahian's remarks came after Turkey hit a Syrian jet fighter and Syria called the move a blatant aggressive move against Turkey's soil
