Kuwait- Steps under way to solve problems of illegal expats

(MENAFN- Arab Times) Around 2,000 expatriates facing residency-related problems have rectified their status as per the instruction of Assistant Undersecretary for Citizenship and Passports Affairs Major General Sheikh Faisal Al-Nawaf to ease procedures for these people, reports Alam Al- Yawm daily quoting sources

Sources confirmed the directive of the assistant undersecretary was implemented after he conducted a study on the issue and submitted results to the interior minister as part of a purely humanitarian security plan to correct the status of nearly 90,000 foreigners staying illegally in the country

Sources said other studies are currently being conducted to gradually fix the problem - a step which needs time, intensified efforts and governmental support

Meanwhile, the Development and Charitable Societies Management Department at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor has withdrawn the licenses of five donor organizations charities for violating regulations and acting against the objective for which they were established, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily quoting Assistant Undersecretary for Social Development Affairs Muneera Al-Fadhli

Al-Fadhli revealed the violations included the illegal collection of donations and changing the location of their headquarters without informing the ministry. She said the ministry submitted a memorandum on the violations to the concerned officials prior to the withdrawal of the licenses. She affirmed the organizations have disregarded warnings from the ministry and continued their violations; hence, the latter had no option but to take the necessary legal steps. She added the Charitable Societies and Donor Organizations Department is currently reviewing the budgets and accounts of charity societies approved by the ministry. She said a directive has been issued to these societies to submit their financial statements for auditing purposes
