Scott focused on victory not top ranking

(MENAFN-Kora) the masters champion is set to assume golf's number one rank from tiger woods should the australian hold onto his lead which is three shots through 54 holes and triumph at bay hill

Scott would then return to augusta not only as the defending champion but acknowledged as the world's best although the 33-year-old said thoughts on the ranking are going to be far from his mind when he tees off on sunday

"i think i've got to try and win the golf tournament. i'm not trying to win the number one ranking" scott said after his one-under 71 on saturday

"i've got a bunch of guys breathing down my neck who all have had nice rounds (saturday) and are feeling pretty good about the way they're playing going into (sunday).

Scott was not bothered despite seeing his seven-shot lead at the midway point of the event cut to just three

"you think seven is a lot but it's not really especially over 36 holes" scott said

"if i was seven back at any other tournament i would think i could still win.

Closest to scott in orlando florida is keegan bradley who bolted into second spot on the leaderboard with a six-under 66 with just 25 of those strokes putts

Bradley feels he is poised to strike on sunday and deny scott an 11th pga tour title

"i kind of like being in this position a couple back going into sunday" the 27-year-old american said

"i just kind of like that underdog role. i like knowing that i've got to go out there and play well. it really gets me excited.

Bradley is hunting a fourth title on the american tour.
