Awsaj Workshop Shows How Technology Helps People With Special Needs


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Awsaj Academy's latest workshop held here showed parents how technologies from the Qatar Assistive Technology Centre, Mada, help people with special needs. A team of technology specialists from Mada presented the fifth training session of the year. ictQatar set up Mada, a non-profit organisation, in 2010 to help individuals with special needs use information and communications technology such as computers, tablets, phones and televisions. Through Mada, people with learning, visual, hearing, and physical disabilities including dyslexia, can use information computer technology without barriers. People in discomfort while using a computer can benefit from Mada as it offers assessments, advice, and training to all. Mada specialists explained to workshop participants the difficulties people with special needs face while using information and communications technology. They explained how to overcome these difficulties with assistive technologies. They also showed how people of Qatar could get free assessments, advice, training, and loans for these technologies from Mada. Parental guidance is important for a child's development. This significantly affects a student's academic and social achievement, Awsaj Academy said. It is part of the Academy's mission to reach out to parents, ensuring they have the information needed to support and benefit their children. The Academy works to involve parents in workshops, support groups, and volunteering. This year, over 400 parents attended Awsaj Academy workshops and expressed an interest to join in future events.
