(MENAFN - Arab Times) Kuwait's Yousef Al Nouaimi riding Mystere Du Fouquet eased into the first position in the national race with a time of 51.63 in the opening race of day two of the International Show Jumping Championship currently underway at the Kuwait Riding Centre in Subhan. Al Nouaimi took full advantage of his draw as last to go in the jump off, to spring into the lead in the Beginner Tour-Table A one round Against the Clock CSI1 event with an obstacle height of 100cm. Saad Al Sulaiman, riding Neffertiti finished in second place about five minutes later after 56.87 minutes. Jassem Al Kharafi presented the awards to the podium winners

Speaking afterwards Al Nouaimi said, "I made sure Mystere Du Fouquet have a good rest to keep him in excellent shape and he jumped really well here, I was very happy with him. It was a tough enough track"

"I think I got the win from the second last to the last fence, when I jumped the second last, the horse put his eye on the last fence, sometimes you could be coming down to a fence at an angle like that and the horse might not put their eye on the fence and jump it, thankfully my horse did on the day and it worked out". Of the thirty one starters just one failed to make it into the jump-off

Meanwhile, earlier on the opening day of the event, Kuwaiti rider Abdulrahman Al Fuzae edged his opponents in the Table A Against the Clock CSI1 contest to clear the field to finish in 62.70, narrowly beating defending champion Ali Khorafi into second place. In the second round of the competition, Khorafi was able to win the title following a fierce and exciting contest involving fourteen riders from six different countries. The champion relied very much on his skills to guide him through as he beat German Marcel Schneider to second place followed by Jamila Al Mutawa, Noura Al Qaoud and Yara Al Hunaidi in third, fourth and fifth positions respectively. After the second round, Mohammad Saffar, representing Eassa Al Yousifi Company and Jassim Al Khorafi along with Mohammed AlGhanim from Fouad Alghanim Company, presented medals to the winners on the podium

On the other hand, speaking at the opening ceremony to kick off the event, former speaker of the national assembly, Jassim Mohammed Al Khorafi stressed the importance of organizing the International Show Jumping event, saying that racing is one of the deep-rooted sports that have been recommended in Islam. He added that both male and female riders from Kuwait have proved their capabilities and made gains both in the country and abroad to raise the flag of the country high. "We're proud of their performances exhibited so far and therefore congratulate the officials of the Riding Center for a very excellent job done", he concluded
