Saudi- Infant suffersbrain damageafter surgery
(MENAFN-Arab News) the taif health department has launched an investigation into claims that a local doctor had caused brain damage to a three-month-old baby girl during an operation on her skull
Nasser otaibi, the father of the girl, had filed the complaint, according to reports. he claimed that the condition of his daughter, ritage, had deteriorated after the operation and accused the doctor of making a mistake during the surgery
Otaibi reportedly said that doctors decided to operate on his daughter because her frontal skull bones had fused. he said the operation was meant to open up the two bones so that the brain could grow without any obstruction. "after the doctors operated on my daughter, one of them told me the operation had been successful," said otaibi. he claimed the child was moved from the operating theater to a room with the minimum amount of care with no medical devices or tranquillizers
"when she woke up, she cried for more than an hour. she then went into a coma and her heart stopped for a few minutes," he claimed. he said the child was then moved to the hospital's intensive care unit
Otaibi claimed the supervising doctors told him that ritage was in a critical condition and that a mistake may have been made during the anesthesia process
The father said he filed a complaint with the health department in taif but did not get a response immediately. "meanwhile, the hospital refused to give me any details, or an initial report on my child's condition," he said
Seraj al-humaidani, spokesman of the taif health department, confirmed that otaibi had filed a complaint. he said the matter would be referred to the courts if a doctor made a mistake
He dismissed otaibi's claim that the hospital refused to give him a report on his daughter's condition.
