Toyota suspends production in India

(MENAFN) Japan-based Toyota said that it suspended production at its main production base in India, Xinhua reported

The suspension came as a result of a "grave threat to the safety of its management" as over 4,500 workers are protesting for wage increase

A senior official at Toyota Kirloskar Motor said: "We were left with no other option but to declare a lockout on Sunday after some workers disrupted production lines and started abusing our line supervisors.

The two plants at the base in the capital of Karnataka state produce more than 300,000 cars a year for the Indian market. Loss of output in the past 25 days was over 2,000 cars
