7.68 Million Square Kilometres to Be Covered in Plane Search


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) The widened search for the missing Malaysian plane covers an area of 2.24 million square nautical miles (7.68 million square kilometres), Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said Tuesday. "This is an enormous search area," Hishammuddin said in a press briefing. "I am therefore very pleased that so many countries have come forward to offer assistance and support to the search and rescue operation." The search area is divided into the southern corridor that stretches from east Sumatra to the south of the Indian Ocean and the northern corridor that spans from Laos to the Caspian Sea, according to Department of Civil Aviation chief Azharuddin Abul Rahman, dpa reporte
