Palestinian, Israeli Leaders Must Advance Peace Talks-UNSC

(MENAFN - Qatar News Agency) Echoing US President Barack Obama's message following a meeting yesterday with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Washington, the UN Security Council on Tuesday urged both the Palestinian and Israeli leaders to take "difficult decisions" for the sake of peace. "The Council members shared the views that efforts must continue to reach a final status agreement and implement the two-state solution. Difficult decisions must now be taken from both sides for the sake of peace," Council President Sylvie Lucas of Luxembourg told reporters following the Council's monthly informal meeting on the situation in the Middle East. She said the Council members stressed that "all parties should refrain from action that undermine trust, feed skepticism and make the peace talks only more difficult," and expressed "serious concern" about actions that could potentially undermine the status-quo of the Holy sites, including the Al-Aqsa Mosque Compound and further exacerbate tensions.
