Omani students win top spots in Egypt contest


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Two Omani students have secured top spots at an Arabic speaking competition held in Egypt recently.


Ziyad bin Nasir al Abri came first in the grade 12 category and Marwan al Habsi won third spot in the grade ten category.


They two will be awarded on Wednesday under the auspices of Dr Nabil al Arabi, secretary general of the Arab League, in the presence of Dr Mahmoud Abu al Nasr, Egypt's Minister of Education. Oman's participation in this competition comes as part of the Ministry of Education's efforts in enriching curricula and encouraging the use of Arabic speaking skills among students.

The competition aimed at encouraging the students to apply the theories and rules of the language. Ziyad said the competition was quite tough.


''The competition was difficult as students from around the Arab world were participating in it.'' Meanwhile, Marwan thanked everyone who guided him.


''I would like to thank everyone who helped me. The competition was fierce. It had three levels, beginning with a competition at the governorate level, then national, and then the finals.''
