Ukraine Recalls Ambassador from Russia for Consultations

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Ukraine on Monday recalled its ambassador to Moscow for consultations over the situation in the crisis-hit Crimea. "Due to the situation around the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the need to discuss its international aspects, Ukraine recalls its ambassador to the Russian Federation, Vladimir Elchenko," the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. Kiev and Moscow in the recent weeks have been embroiled in a standoff on the future of Crimea, which earlier in the day declared independence from Ukraine and sent application to the Kremlin to join the Russian Federation as a new republic. Meanwhile, Russia today called on Ukraine to draft a new federal constitution granting broadened powers to the country's disparate regions in order to protect minority populations.
