Former president of Korea praises Oman's growth


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Lee Myung-bak, former President of Korea, has commended the comprehensive and sustainable development witnessed by Oman under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said in economic, social and cultural spheres.


He was delivering a lecture titled ‘Korean Experience in Promoting the Economy' on Monday at the Cultural Centre of Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) in the presence of H H Sayyida Dr Muna bint Fahd bin Mahmoud al Said, assistant vice-chancellor for external cooperation, SQU.


Myung-bak spoke on Korea and its social, economic and cultural aspects, particularly progress witnessed by its industry. He stressed the importance of education and its role in development of the world economies.


He also spoke about his career and the difficulties he faced while completing his education. He served as the CEO of Hyundai Company, before being elected as mayor of Seoul in 2002 and president of Korea in December 2007.


The former president's speech also touched upon Oman-Korea relations, and the progress witnessed in several areas of trade and economy. He said that Korea is the largest importer of Omani natural gas and there are a number of Korean companies working in different projects in the sultanate.


He said that the current generation needs education to effectively contribute in the process of development.


He also stressed on the importance of women's participation in the development process.


Myung-bak will be the main speaker at the opening of the fourth Oman Economic Forum on Tuesday.
