Jets break drought against Stars in NHL


(MENAFN- Kora) Winnipeg tasted victory for the first time since March 1 on Sunday, scoring four unanswered goals in the final two periods to overwhelm the Stars, while in Philadelphia, the Flyers notched their second win over the Pittsburgh Penguins in as many days



In Canada, Blake Wheeler was the puppet-master for the Jets, setting up four of the home team's goals



The winger teed up Jacob Trouba for Winnipeg's opening goal in the fourth minute, before Dallas scored the next two goals to take the lead



Michael Frolik equalised for the hosts in the 12th minute, before Wheeler claimed another assist just before the first break, helping set-up Tobias Enstrom to score



Just 29 seconds into the second period and Wheeler was at it again, this time creating a goal for Olli Jokinen



Dustin Byfuglien scored the next two goals for Winnipeg, either side of the second break, with Wheeler claiming an assist on the second, while Evander Kane completed the Jets' comprehensive victory in the eighth minute of the final stanza



Despite the win, Winnipeg remain second bottom in the Western Conference's Central division, 30 points behind leaders the St Louis Blues



Philadelphia hosted the Penguins again with Wayne Simmonds' first-period performance setting up the Flyers' victory



Having accounted for Pittsburgh 4-0 on Saturday, the Flyers started strongly on Sunday as Simmonds set up the opening goal and then scored the next two to give the home team a three-goal lead



Pittsburgh's Brooks Orpik hit back before the first period came to a close and the visitors drew within a goal when Matt Niskanen struck soon after the break



The Flyers made it 4-2 through Matt Read before Jayson Megna reduced the hosts' margin four minute later but Philadelphia held on through a scoreless final period



The Flyers, who sit second in the Eastern Conference's Metropolitan division, rose to 77 points, 15 behind leaders Pittsburgh



The Chicago Blackhawks claimed a comfortable 4-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings, the Montreal Canadiens prevailed 2-0 over the Buffalo Sabres and the Colorado Avalanche defeated the Ottawa Senators 3-1



In other results, the Vancouver Canucks needed a shootout to knock off the Florida Panthers 4-3, the Washington Capitals won 4-2 against the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Edmonton Oilers edged out the Carolina Hurricanes 2-1 and the San Jose Sharks won 1-0 at the New York Rangers
